Overview

Waqrapukara is one of the most popular attractions for lovers of hiking and unique landscapes. Although the role that this construction played has not yet been determined, it is believed that it was a fortress due to the place where it is located and the form of a castle it takes; and also religious due to the shape of horns that the construction presents.

Waqrapukara is divided into two parts and a main square. In the lower part of the fortress you can find platforms, enclosures and stairs that lead to the highest part. In the upper part are the largest buildings, temples and finer constructions that were for the elite of the Inca Civilization.

During the walk to reach this site, you will find Inca sites such as Tambopukara, Yactapukara and Ayapukara, which would show that this was a place of great importance. Also to get to Waqrapukara there are different paths from different parts of Cusco, some longer walks than others but they all lead to the same place.

To carry out this tour we recommend you spend a few days in Cusco, take a tour and be in a position to hike uphill, since this Inca site is located on top of a mountain.

Itinerary

Waqrapukara Trek Cusco

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco in our private transportation. We will take you through the South Valley of Cusco which is surrounded by some lagoons. Arriving at the Pomacanchi lagoon we will stop for breakfast with a view of the lagoon.

After breakfast we will continue the trip to the starting point of the walk, Huayqui. We will begin with an ascent through the Apurimac Canyon, seeing some cave paintings on the way that are still preserved.

Upon arrival at Waqrapukara, you will tour the place with our guide who will take you through the two sectors that this enclosure presents. You will be able to see the main square and the platforms of Wiracocha, Supreme God of the Inca Empire.

After the tour we will return to the starting point for lunch. Finally we will take you back to Cusco. We will leave you in your respective accommodation.
