Overview

The Inca Civilization always looked for a way to connect between its different peoples, this is how they built a network of roads known as the “Qhapaq Ñam” and in places where it was not possible to continue with the road due to the rugged terrain it presented or because there was a river in between bridges were built. And this is one of the last remaining Inca bridges in Cusco, made of vegetable fibers with a length of 29 meters and a width of 1.20 meters.

The communities of Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, Huinchiri and Ccollana Quehue conserve this bridge and renew it year after year through a custom that lasts 4 days in the month of June, and they transmit this tradition from generation to generation.

It is a remarkable four-day event that has been recognized by some of the prominent channels like NOVA and BBC. In 2009, the Peruvian government recognized the Q’eswachaka bridge as cultural heritage.

Itinerary

Qeswachaka tour Cusco

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco at 6:00 AM. We will take you through the South Valley of Cusco, which is surrounded by lagoons such as Pomacanchi, Acopia, Ancascocha and Pampamarca. Before reaching the province of Canas we will stop for breakfast.

We will continue the trip to the district of Quehue, a place that houses the Q’eswachaca bridge. Upon arrival we will tour the place with our guide who will explain in more detail about the customs of this area.

After crossing the bridge we will have a typical local lunch. Finally we will return to the transport to return to Cusco. We will leave you at your accommodation.
