The Sacred Valley of the Incas extended throughout the province of Urubamba. This valley was used by the Incas for the construction of different Inca archaeological sites and also for the cultivation of different Andean products. During this tour you will be able to visit the Salt Mines of Maras and Archaeological Complex of Moray.
A beautiful traditional town that houses the famous salt mines of Maras. It is believed that these wells were built in a time before the Incas, the Wari Culture, on the side of a mountain. However, the Incas took full advantage of this place and enlarged the wells uphill.
When this water evaporates, in the wells where the water rests, it is extracted and processed for consumption. More than 5,000 wells are currently in use.
This Archaeological Complex is composed of 3 groups of circular terraces, which vary in temperature from the highest terrace to the lowest. Each place presents twelve levels of terraces. It is believed that this place was used by the Incas as a research laboratory to determine the proper temperature for growing different products.
